Next Step Wheel: Throwing & Designing Planters

$400.00

Brighten up these dreary winter days and welcome greenery into your home in preparation for spring with our Planter class. You’ll learn how to throw a variety of planter shapes on the wheel, build in drainage and catchers, and play with form with consideration of your plant’s unique needs.

In this class, we’ll cover throwing basic planters with drainage holes, explore shapes with curves and angles, design planters with matching plates and feet, throw a planter with an attached drip plate in one piece, and throw planters with a classic foldover rim. Using all these techniques, we’ll nerd out on how we can consider different plants’ biome in the planter design, from dry succulents and cacti to finicky indoor tropical plants to durable outdoor planters. Planters afford a lot of opportunity to play with surface texture and design, so we’ll dive deep into texture, slips, and glazing techniques.

Students should have completed a wheel throwing beginner class and be able to throw a cylinder. This builds off of beginner centering skills and will help you advance your skills.
