HICKORY CLAY GLAZES
Cone 6 glazes designed, tested, and mixed by hand in our San Francisco studio.
Hickory Clay is the only cone 6 pottery studio in the Bay Area with a fully in-house designed glaze library. Every glaze we sell — including our signature Matte Black, Satin Matte White, and Powder Pink — is formulated and mixed by us, tested across multiple clay bodies, and trusted by the members and students who use them every day in our studio.

A soft, buttery pink in a matte finish. Partially transparent, it gains richness on darker clays or with a double dip. It produces a mild crackle effect as well.
A translucent, matte glaze. It provides a matte but milky layer of glass onto pieces. It’s a beautiful, thick glaze that provides good coverage and doesn’t show fingerprints. It crackles on some clays.
The satin white has a soft opalescence and visual airiness. It is a cool white that is soft to the touch. It’s our favorite and most sought-after white.
A beautiful glossy white glaze that separates during firing. One coat yields a milky white surface. Two coats creates the crawl effect. Patterns can be controlled based on the thinness of layers and drips.
A warm neutral in a satin finish. Drips pool in a beautiful, saturated soft orange.
A warm yellow with a flat finish. This glaze layers well with others, and has a gradient from yellow to white when the it breaks or thins out.
A soft, satin silvery gray. It is semi-translucent and gets richer on darker clay bodies. Creates a beautiful, delicate surface. Formulated for Cone 6.
A soft grey-green with a satin finish. Translucent and shows the clay below.
A brilliant turquoise blue with a flat, matte finish. This glaze is not recommended for food surfaces.
A stunning, velvet black glaze. This glaze is great for beginners and hides finger prints, but provides an elevated, sophisticated finish. This glaze has been laboratory tested to be safe on food surfaces.
