Learn the ‘why’ of color and clay. The 1st lesson will cover colorants and metals interactions and students will learn to make colored slip and colored clay. The 2nd lesson will focus on wild clay. Students will use wild clay to test small samples, investigate elasticity and learn about firing temperatures. The 3rd lesson will investigate the lessons from wild clay, glaze the tests, and make iron washes (ocher, sienna, umber.) The 4th lesson will cover vitrification, heat work, and food safety.
Comes with 4 weeks of studio time, but does not include any wheel/handbuilding instruction. This class builds towards our Glaze Mixing class which will be offered in September
